PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines has cancelled its flight MH67 from Seoul, South Korea, bound for Kuala Lumpur today.
This comes after it was reported that another Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Seoul from Kuala Lumpur, MH66, had to be diverted earlier today.
According to Flightradar24, MH67 was scheduled to depart from Seoul at 11am local time and arrive at 4.35pm. However, the website shows that the flight has been cancelled.
FMT has reached out to Malaysia Airlines for comment.
Last Thursday, the national carrier said it has completed all necessary flight cancellations for August and September in addressing recent operational difficulties. However, the airline said that all remaining flights in August and September would operate as scheduled.
On Wednesday, Aeroroutes.com reported that Malaysia Airlines was cutting back on flights to 13 destinations: Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Denpasar, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Jeddah, Medan Kualanamu, Mumbai, Osaka Kansai, Seoul Incheon, Shanghai Pudong, Singapore, Tokyo Narita and Yangon.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia had reduced the validity of Malaysia Airlines’ air operator certificate from three years to one year following the national carrier’s operational difficulties.
On Thursday, the airline’s parent body, Malaysia Aviation Group, said it was supposed to receive 17 new aircraft this year from manufacturers but only four had been delivered so far.
MAG managing director Izham Ismail said this had partly affected its operations.
He also said global shortages led to spare parts production delays, which in turn led to longer turnarounds for the repair and overhaul of plane engines.
