Lui said the plantation, construction, manufacturing and service industries are facing a shortage problem.
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government is urged to consider relaxing the conditions for hiring foreign workers, including Bangladeshis, to solve the serious shortage, especially in the agricultural sector.

KKCCCI (Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce) President Datuk Michael Lui said the plantation, construction, manufacturing and service industries are facing a shortage problem.

“We think it is time for the government to adopt an open policy to hire foreign workers of other nationalities, especially during the post-epidemic economic recovery,” he said, after meeting a Bangladeshi delegation.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md. Shameem Ahsan accompanied by the Commissioner’s labour, political and commercial counsellors met with Michael and exchanged views on some major issues.

Md. Shameem Ahsan said Bangladesh has proven to be a resilient and attractive investment destination, providing new opportunities for foreign investors.

He believes Bangladesh could be a preferred country for Sabah investors to invest abroad, including relocating industries, as Bangladesh offers a strong local market, greater global market connectivity and proven export competitiveness.
