LAHAD DATU: The Maya Squad received RM3.8 million from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as part of the Santuni Budi, Tautan Kasih program at Felda Wilayah Sahabat, during his visit last week.
Senior Assistant Director of the Felda Community and Generational Development Department, Nurul Naida Md. Noh, said the funds would greatly benefit the establishment of the Maya Squad across all Felda schemes in Malaysia.
“This funding will be used for training squad members and purchasing equipment such as blood pressure monitors, glucometers, weighing scales, and other necessary items for health checks in settlers’ homes,” she said to the media after the Santuni Budi, Tautan Kasih event.
Currently, the Maya Squad in Sahabat has 29 members and is the second Felda region established, following Gua Musang.

Regarding the new Dialysis Centre in Felda Sahabat, Nurul said it would provide easier access to treatment for settlers.
“Last year, the Prime Minister announced the establishment of 12 dialysis centres, with those in Gua Musang and Kelana Jaya already completed. Six more are expected to be finished by the end of this year, and four more next year.
“The announcement of the new dialysis centre in Sahabat is the latest development, with the exact location to be determined later,” she said.
The Maya Squad was established under the Felda Madani Healthy Community Programme to empower settlers in self-care and create a trained health volunteer group.
This initiative will also serve as a catalyst for promoting healthy lifestyles within the community.
In addition to over 1,000 settlers, the event was attended by Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, Felda Chairman Datuk Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Lahad Datu District Officer Firuz Idzualdeen@Bennety Mohd Dzul.
