SANDAKAN: Hundreds of residents participated in the 2024 Kampung Sim-Sim Fun Sports Carnival on Sunday in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations.
It included also cultural activities that fostered unity and patriotism.
Tanjung Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon hoped it would be held annually.
“As well as strengthening ties among the local community, I am confident this carnival encourages physical health and mental well-being.”
Activities included ping pong ball race, bottle-filling, balloon popping, coconut bowling, colouring, football juggling, penalty kicks, sack races, flour blowing and tug of war.
A Gala Night was held at the Kampung Sim-Sim Futsal Court featuring stage performances, a beauty pageant, a lucky draw and the announcement and prize presentation for the Night Hut Decoration Competition.
The hut decoration competition was divided into the Rancangan Rumah Murah and Sim Sim Flats category and the Kampung Sim-Sim Hut category.
In the Rancangan Rumah Murah and Sim-Sim Flats category, Lorong C emerged as the champion, while second and third places went to Lorong H and Yii Villa, respectively.
In the Kampung Sim-Sim Hut category, Jambatan 8 was crowned the champion, while Jambatan 11 and Jambatan 14 took second and third places, respectively.
Also present were Secretary to the Tanjung Papat Assemblyman cum Jetama Water Sdn Bhd Chairperson Liau Fui Fui, Organising Chairman Abdul Rahman Osman, and Kampung Sim-Sim Village Chief Abdul Lasaid Abrahim.
