Kota Kinabalu: Shotokan Karate Association of Sabah (SKAS) athlete Eidelweiss Franzel Fancey Sami, 18, received an RM15,000 incentive from the Sarawak government in recognition of her outstanding achievement at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma), held in Sarawak from August 17 to 24.
Eidelweiss made history by securing the first gold medal for Sarawak karate in 24 years, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the state.
The incentive, part of the state’s initiative to reward athletes for their dedication and success, was personally presented by the Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurs Dato Sri Abd Karim Rahman Hamzah in a ceremony last Saturday.
Also present at the event was Sarawak Karate President Cherina Chiew who celebrated the monumental achievement alongside the athlete.
Eidelweiss’ victory not only highlights her personal excellence but also reflects the hard work of her coaches and the support of her team at SKAS.
Her achievement serves as an inspiration for other young athletes to strive for success on both national and international stages, signalling a bright future for Sarawak karate.
