LAHAD DATU: An elephant was found dead at a plantation in Begahak, here, on Tuesday.
It was learnt that, about 9am on Tuesday, members of public informed the Wildlife Department about an injured elephant in the area.
However, when the Wildlife Department team arrived for inspection, the elephant had died.
The team later carried out inspection and found no shot wound on the female elephant aged around two to three years.
A police report was lodged for further action.
District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy A/K Panyau confirmed that a report had been made.
Jimmy also said they had received a report following a male crocodile shot dead in Kampung Segangan II, on the same day.
Prior to the police report, during the monitoring and inspection made by the Wildlife Department at Kampung Segangan II, a crocodile was sighted near a riverbank.
Four shots were fired at the crocodile about 11.7 feet long. The carcass was later brought to the Lahad Datu Wildlife Department for further action.
