LAHAD DATU: Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd remains committed to implementing efforts to contribute positively to the natural environment.
The organisation’s Human Resources and Administration Manager, Ordoja Tormis, said that among the efforts implemented by Gamalux is recycling reusable resources, including used cooking oil (UCO).
Ordoja said that recycling UCO is not a new thing, but there are still some people who are unaware of this or don’t know where to send the UCO.
“UCO is waste from our kitchens but can be recycled and widely used in the renewable energy sector.
“The effort to recycle UCO may seem small, but it is a giant step towards a more sustainable future,” she said.
Ordoja said this at the Used Cooking Oil Collection Programme in conjunction with the Love Earth Carnival organised by Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd together with the Lahad Datu District Council.
The two-day carnival, which was officially opened by the District Officer, Firuz Idzualdeen Mohd Dzul, provided various interesting activities such as colouring and poster drawing competitions, crossword puzzles, LD Got Talent and many more.
The carnival also provided access to information booths such as Mara, Community College, Socso and others.
According to Ordoja, understanding that efforts to integrate sustainable practices into daily life are quite troublesome for consumers and receive less support.
“Gamalux came up with this programme to create more awareness on this matter, so that we can together explore how we can contribute towards a greener and healthier environment for future generations.
She said it is important for the public to know that improper disposal of UCO can pose dangers to the environment.
“For example, when we dispose of used cooking oil into drains, it can cause sewer blockages which can disrupt water flow and increase the risk of flooding.
“If UCO is disposed of by dumping it into rivers, it can cause water pollution and affect other ecosystems.
“Repeated use of cooking oil in cooking may also be detrimental to our health in the long run due to the high content of free fatty acids naturally present in UCO.
“Therefore, recycling UCO is a good solution and Gamalux is ready to help the community to contribute together to significant sustainability efforts.
“Through this programme we want to raise awareness among the community about the importance of sustainability such as the collection and processing of UCO as it will lead to significant changes for environmental improvement,” she added.
Meanwhile, Firuz, while officiating the carnival and programme, praised the company’s efforts in organizing a program that can have a positive impact on the community.
He also hopes that programmes like this can become a platform to strengthen cooperation between local authorities and the private sector.
