Driver killed in Lahad Datu cement tanker crash
AN elderly man was killed after the cement tanker he was driving skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine along Mile 18, Sandakan-Lahad Datu, early Monday.

Abd Halim Bolong, 72, was trapped underneath for about 10 hours and only extracted around noon due to the difficulties in pulling the cement tanker out from the 10-metre-deep ravine.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Sumsoa Rashid said a team of 10 firefighters was deployed to the scene, about 29km from the station, after they received a distress call at 2.42am.

He said the driver was pinned and buried in the soil beneath the cement tanker.
