110 pints of blood collected at Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association drive

PENAMPANG: Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) once again stepped up to assist the needy with a blood donation drive, here, Sunday.

The blood donation campaign was done in collaboration with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II Blood Bank.

It was held at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC Shopping Mall) here and when the campaign ended at 5pm, a total of 110 pints of blood were collected.

A total of 160 people initially registered to donate blood however only 110 were successful in donating blood due to various health reasons.

Meanwhile, KKJA Chairman Jimmy Goh thanked the team from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II Blood Bank and all the sponsors for their support to the event.

“We are grateful to all our sponsors for their invaluable contribution in sponsoring our blood donation drive 2024,” he said. 

“Blood banks are constantly in need of supplies to assist patients who require blood transfusions due to accidents, operations, births and other circumstances.

“Since the community has helped us in the media industry for so long we feel that conducting a blood drive to save lives is one way to show our appreciation,” he said.

Organising chairperson Sherell Jeffrey thanked the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Blood Bank Unit for the support, ITCC Shopping Mall, Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun and Krusi Kadazan-Dusun UMS for providing the venue, Padiberas Nasional Berhad, Kojasa, Myxo, Cha Yi, Dong Sin, UNE, Wan Lin, Kim Teck Cheong, A1 Chicken Rice, KK Seafood Garden, Wah Yoon and Double Smart for their sponsorship and contributions.

 “Saving lives is more important than anything and this blood donation drive will certainly help save many who are in urgent need of blood,” she said.
