Restaurant’s kitchen, school and storage room razed

SANDAKAN: A restaurant in Bandar Indah Batu 4, near here, caught fire early Wednesday.

Quick action by a team from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station, who arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call at 4.15 am, prevented the fire from spreading to nearby shops.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief PKPgB Severinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sainkui said the fire destroyed 15 per cent of the restaurant’s kitchen.

No victims were reported in the incident, while the cause of the fire and the estimated damages are still under investigation.

In a separate incident, the district firefighters also extinguished a Perodua Kancil vehicle fire at Bulatan Fajar, Jalan Airport Batu 7, on Tuesday night.

A firefighter team rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 9.25 pm and successfully put out the fire by 9.44 pm.

The Perodua Kancil was 80 per cent destroyed, but no victims were reported in the incident.

Meanwhile in KUDAT, SK Saint Peter building was 40 per cent damaged by fire, with the school’s storage room destroyed, early Wednesday.

Kudat Fire and Rescue Station Chief PPB Ishak Jabas said no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

He said a team of 17 personnel, including seven volunteer firefighters, on a fire engine, an EMRS vehicle and three utility vehicles arrived at the scene at 7.01 am after receiving a distress call at 7 am.

He said the fire was extinguished using a 300-foot hose with two jets, drawing water from the fire engine and a nearby fire hydrant.

The cause of the incident and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
