TAWAU: A suspected drug trafficker who had been actively conducting illegal activities for the past year, was arrested by police along with 3,332.7gm of compressed cannabis, estimated to be worth RM10,380, here, last Monday.

It is understood that the case involved the largest seizure of cannabis in Tawau this year.

Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said the 39-year-old local suspect, who works as a lorry driver, was arrested at 10.15am  with 9.98gm of cannabis after being seen behaving in suspicious manner at the Megah 2 Industrial Lane area, here.

Meanwhile, another 3,322.72gm of cannabis was found in a kitchen cabinet following a raid by a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) on a house in Bandar Sri Indah (BSI), Batu 10, Jalan Apas.

He added that the house was raided at 1.40pm after the suspect revealed that the remaining drugs were hidden in his home inside a blue-lidded plastic container, which held various forms of cannabis.

Jasmin said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect obtained the cannabis supply from Kota Kinabalu and sold it in Tawau  at a price of RM100 for every 5gm.

“The suspect’s modus operandi was to deliver the drugs via COD (Cash on Delivery) according to orders received through phone calls and other means.

“The compressed cannabis would be broken down into biscuit-like forms stored in packets and jars before being sold, based on orders,” he said during a press conference at the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Friday.

Jasmin further stated that the suspect had two previous criminal records related to drugs and a urine test conducted on him showed positive results for THC (cannabis) abuse.

The suspect was remanded for seven days until Oct 1 for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“We are also actively tracking the drug distribution network for further investigation,” he said.

He emphasised that drug trafficking, possession and abuse are offences under the law.

Therefore, he urged the public to provide information and cooperate with the police in combating drug-related criminal activities in the district.
