Kota Kinabalu: A Justice of the Peace (JP) has praised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for cracking down on a counter-setting syndicate operating within the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) in Peninsular Malaysia.

Datuk David Chong urged MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki to extend the “Ops Setting” nationwide, as suspected corruption is believed to be occurring in other parts of the country as well.

The operation has resulted in 60 arrests to date, including 50 JIM officers, a policeman, and 10 syndicate agents, according to Azam recently.

He added that the bribes paid to the immigration officers involved ranged between RM200 and RM2,500.
