PETALING JAYA: Two individuals linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH), including an alleged money-runner for the organisation, had their remand extended by the magistrates’ court in Shah Alam today.
The five-day remand extension for the two individuals, who are in their 50s, starts today after the expiration of the previous remand.
The extension was issued by deputy registrar Nurshahira Abdul Salim, Bernama reported.
Rosli Kamaruddin, the lawyer representing the two individuals said the investigations will be carried out under Section 31(a) of the Child Act 2001 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
The two individuals were previously remanded for seven days from Sept 23, following their arrest last week.
Last Friday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that the police had detained an individual believed to be a money-runner for GISBH during Phase 4 of Op Global in Butterworth, Penang, on Sept 23.
On Sept 11, police raided 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan linked to GISBH due to alleged involvement in child exploitation and abuse.
The operation codenamed Op Global uncovered cases of neglect and abuse, leading to the detention of over 300 individuals associated with GISBH, including its top management.
The police also rescued 572 victims from the charity homes.
Meanwhile, the court also allowed an application from the social welfare department (JKM) to place 15 children, identified as the children of a senior GISBH leader, in a shelter.
The children – comprising nine boys and six girls, aged 3 to 16 – will be placed in shelters run by the department in Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
Separately, the remand for a "mudir" of an Islamic school, suspected of having links with GISBH, has also been extended for another three days, until Wednesday. His previous remand, which started on Sept 26, ended today.
The remand order against the 66-year-old suspect was issued by magistrate Amal Razim at the magistrates’ court in Machang, Kelantan, Harian Metro reported.
The suspect was represented by Siti Zuraidah Abdul Aziz, a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
He was detained on Sept 25 after police raided Sekolah Rendah Integrasi Ikhwan in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, and confiscated 34 banned books related to Al-Arqam founder Ashaari Muhammad.
