PETALING JAYA: Three boys aged between 12 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of raping a 12-year-old girl in an orchard in Tawau, Sabah, last Thursday.
Astro Awani reported Tawau deputy police chief Champin Piuh as saying the victim’s mother lodged a police report at 5pm on Friday.
Champin said a team from the Tawau police headquarters arrested the suspects at 5.45pm the same day.
He said early investigations found that the incident happened at 9pm on Thursday at an orchard neighbouring a village in Tawau.
“Two of the suspects have birth certificates, while the third has no personal identification documents. All of them are unschooled.
Champin said police obtained a remand order from the Tawau magistrates’ court on Saturday and all the suspects are being detained for five days until Oct 2 to aid in investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 375b of the Penal Code for gang rape, Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for living in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit.
