Kota Kinabalu: Five children were killed in a fire that destroyed four houses and a stall at the Lembaga Padi squatters’ area in Likas, here, Monday.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Deputy Director Farhan Sufyan Borhan said the remains were found at about 2.40pm.

The victims, all girls, were aged between three and 14.

“Initial findings showed that the fire started in the house closest to the monsoon drain,” he said, adding that the cause of fire has yet to be established.

He said the fire impacted nine families comprising 27 people.
