Pakistani, Indonesian jailed for overstaying in Sabah
Amir was fined RM10,000 or 12 months’ jail for staying in the State after his social visit pass had expired on Nov 22, 2022.
Kota Kinabalu: A Pakistani and an Indonesian were jailed and fined for overstaying in the State for more than a year.

Amir Nawab Khan, 31, and Ruben Mullu, 52, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to the charge against them, Thursday.

Amir was fined RM10,000 or 12 months’ jail for staying in the State after his social visit pass had expired on Nov 22, 2022.

He was arrested at 10.35pm on Sept 23, 24 near Sahib Trading Sdn Bhd in Kg Tamalang, Kudat.

Meanwhile, Ruben was sentenced to a year’s jail for staying in the State after his special pass had expired on Oct 18, 2020 in which he had stayed in the State without any document for three years and 10 months.

He was detained at 1.25am on Sept 12 this year at a farm house in Kg Binaong, Keningau.

During mitigation, the duo asked for leniency saying that they have children and families to look after.

Amir asked for a fine only.

Prosecuting Officer Azizah Ahmad from Immigration Department urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence.

In another court, a 39-year-old Filipino was jailed a total of 10 months for illegal entry and re-entering the State illegally after was deported to his hometown.

Ain Basa Omar admitted to both charges against him.

For entering the State without any document, Ain was jailed four months and for the second charge, he was sent to prison for six months.

The court ordered Ain to serve the jail sentence concurrently from the date of his arrest.

After his release, Amir, Ruben and Ain were ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department.
