KOTA KINABALU: Sabah exported its first container shipment of European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)-compliant plywood to Poland on Sept 29, said State Chief Forests Conservator Datuk Frederick Kugan.
Frederick said this milestone shipment, comprising 45.73 cubic metres of plywood, was produced by Integrated Wood Processing Sdn Bhd in Tawau and exported to Poland.
“The raw materials were responsibly sourced from Sapulut Forest Development Sdn Bhd, a Sustainable Forest Management License Agreement (SFMLA) licensee, under the State Government’s jurisdiction and the oversight of the Sabah Forestry Department,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The EUDR, introduced in 2022 and set to take effect on Dec 30 this year, mandates that timber products entering the EU must be free from deforestation or forest degradation after Dec 31, 2020.
It also requires comprehensive traceability through geolocation data and a due diligence statement, ensuring products meet strict environmental criteria.
