Kota Kinabalu: A 58-year-old unemployed man was fined RM5,000 or eight months jail by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday for threatening to kill his wife four months ago.
Junih Goilis pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to criminally intimidating Diana Murin, 52 on June 22 at 9.20pm, Kg Babagon, Penampang.
The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.
The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that Junih had assaulted the wife and threatened to kill her once he is out of prison.
The wife was anxious because she knew Junih had a homemade weapon and several bullets. She subsequently lodged a police report and Junih was arrested on June 27.
Unrepresented, Junih applied for a minimum fine, citing that he is not working and had difficulties paying a huge fined.
Inspector Alia Nuurlysa Adnan, prosecuting, informed the court that Junih was also facing another charge of causing harm to his wife under Section 324 of the Penal Code in the Sessions Court, related to the current case, and the next mention date is set for Oct 17.
In another case, two men were each jailed a day and fined RM10,000 or three months jail for drink-driving.
Chu Xiang Juin, 22, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on Feb 29, this year, at 2.45am, at Jalan Coastal here.
Meltthony Gusitin, 26, admitted to the offence committed on March 8, this year, at 12.55am, at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, here.
The two were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and fine between RM10,000 and RM30,000 and lost qualification from holding or getting a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction.

Meanwhile, three people were jailed nine months each for having syabu.
Razlee Sailin, 33, Norasri Asmara, 41, and Norfarinah Safari, 29, pleaded guilty separately to having syabu weighing at 0.08gm, 0.03gm, and 0.08gm, respectively, between July 19 and Aug 15 here.
They were charge under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both, on conviction.
Norfarinah was also handed another seven months jail for taking syabu as framed under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
The magistrate ordered her to serve both sentences concurrently.
