1,000 for Sabah JCI meet

Kota Kinabalu: Some 1,000 local and international young leaders and entrepreneurs are expected at the 2024 JCI Malaysia National Convention (Natcon), hosted by JCI Tanjung Aru from Oct 16 to 19 at KDCA in Penampang and the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

National Deputy Convention Director JCI Member Joanna Chong said the four-day and three-night annual event promises to enhance business networking, foster collaborations and promote talent discovery, besides showcasing the unique cultural offerings of Sabah.

“The event not only celebrates and encourages the outstanding achievements of JCI members but also includes a variety of activities such as General Assembly, trade exhibition, cultural performance, elections, training workshops, English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia public speaking and debate competitions, Parliamentary Quiz, badminton friendly match, and talent battle with Sport theme and E-Sport Tournament.

“National Convention Director JCI Senator Alvis Loo said, President Kaveen Kumar Kumaravel, from JCI India, is among delegates, besides JCI Singapore, JCI Taiwan JCI Thailand.”

On Oct. 17, the General Assembly will be conducted at the KDCA Unity Hall with over 400 Voting Counsellors from 75 Local Organisations of JCI Malaysia.

Following a parliamentary procedure similar to United Nations meetings.

Candidates for 2025 National Officer positions would present their plans of action.

The evening would culminate in a “Unity in Diversity” Welcoming Night, featuring cultural costumes and a showcase of Sabah’s hospitality.

On Oct 18, the Theme Night event would celebrate “Sabah Delights,” promoting local foods and drinks at the KDCA and Koisaan Cultural Village (KCV).

Delegates would wear the convention’s “Legacy of Leaders” shirts featuring a whale shark logo, symbolising JCI Tanjung Aru’s flagship project, “Say No To Shark Fin Soup” initiated in 2010.

The convention would conclude on Oct 19 with a Gala and Award Dinner themed “Starlight Soiree” at SICC Kinabalu Hall.

“The event will honor the 2024 Outstanding Members, Organizations, and Projects, and witness the installation of the 2025 JCI Malaysia Elected National President and Board of Directors.

The evening will also see the handover of the Convention Flag to the 2025 Convention Bidding Chairperson, which most likely will be hosted by a Local Organization from the Northern area of Peninsular Malaysia.”
