Kota Kinabalu: A woman from rural Paitan district who cannot register at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for further studies due to financial constraints and whose plight Daily Express helped bring to light will do so at UMS this Friday with help from authorities, it has been reported.
“It takes a village to raise a child,” the Overseas Chinese Daily News reported the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, as saying.
"I am very grateful to the media and the people of Malaysia who care about higher education opportunities for children in Sabah.
“The difficulties faced by Crisnanalina are a true reflection of the reality faced by children in our hinterland.”
Mustapha revealed that UMS had taken urgent action to arrange transportation for Crisnanalina Jumis to the campus and assist her in the registration process that will be carried out this Friday.
The 20-year-old from Paitan's Kg Dalamas has been accepted into UMS after completing her Form 6 at SMK Pitas, however, her dreams of pursuing higher education were uncertain due to financial difficulties.
