Kota Kinabalu: Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah is the latest political figure to give a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here regarding a controversial whistleblower video.
The Sabah Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) Chairman arrived at the MACC office here at 9am and left at 12.30pm.
“My presence at the MACC office demonstrates my full commitment to cooperating and enabling the authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into this video recording,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
“The MACC officer took two and a half hours to record my statement and I am grateful to have been able to provide cooperation.
“The officers were extremely professional and dedicated during the investigation,” he said.
He welcomes any authorised body to conduct investigations into the allegations and promised to give full cooperation.
He also pointed out that the video recording had been edited and manipulated before its release.
“The video clearly does not represent the actual story, as it was edited to appear biased towards the individual who made the recording,” he said.
“I am ready to be called by MACC at any time, without making excuses about being sick or being busy with work commitments.
“I hope MACC will summon the individual who made the recording for a detailed investigation and request the actual video of the conversation,” he said.
He believes there is political interference involving the opposition party, deliberately attempting to trap several Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) representatives as part of a plot to undermine the State Government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Masiung said he had anticipated the opposition’s plot, feeling threatened by the State Government’s excellence under Hajiji, particularly with the unexpected Sabah 2025 Budget of RM7.421 billion - a feat never accomplished by the previous opposition government.
He also urged the people in the Kuamut area he represents to remain calm and refrain from engaging in speculation.
Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun had on Tuesday voluntarily appeared at the MACC office here to provide a statement regarding the controversial video.
Several fresh whistleblower videos of other political figures also started making its rounds on Tuesday.
Last month, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said it had received a report on a businessman suspected to be involved in the graft claims.
Five Sabah assemblymen have had their statements recorded by the MACC in connection with the corruption claims linked to the issuance of state mining licences.
