KOTA KINABALU: Senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah’s challenge to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor to sue the whistleblower in the alleged scandal involving several assemblymen defies logic.
Malaysian People’s Power Movement (G57) Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar said this is because it is already under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Thus, MACC should be given space to complete their work before discussing about issuing civil suits.
“Shafie as an experienced lawyer should have realised that the whistleblower’s action of choosing a news portal to broadcast the videos while turning his back on the MACC was inappropriate.
“We in G57 is of the view that when someone knows of corrupt practices, the matter should not be hidden, referring to Section 25 of the MACC Act 2009.
“When you know any corrupt practice but did not report them to the MACC, this is clearly an offence,” Zulkarnain said.
He said G57 made a report to the MACC and the police regarding the misconduct of the group linked to the informant.
“G57 has full faith in MACC to solve this case. Hajiji should continue to focus on developing Sabah which is still far behind in roads, electricity and water.
“Hajiji should not get entangled in the provocations played by certain parties who have a hidden agenda to undermine the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in Sabah,” Zulkarnain said.
Earlier, Sabah Umno Chief Information Officer Datuk Suhaimi Nasir demanded swift action from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and state assembly members regarding the corruption allegations.
He said a police report should be lodged and legal action pursued to demonstrate zero tolerance for false accusations and to uphold truth and justice.
