Korean Haman persimmons make Sabah debut
Foo Jonghae and Haman officials at the promotion of Korean Persimmon at Everrise in Imago Shopping Mall on Saturday.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is the focus this time for exporters of famous persimmons from Haman county in South Korea. The fruit is being promoted in more than 10 Sabah supermarket outlets. 

The fruit was previously available in peninsula and Sarawak is targeted for next year.

Importer Euro-Atlantic (Sabah) Sdn Bhd Director for East Malaysia, Foo Sai Tong, said the company is importing persimmons from Haman for the first time.

“We used to import persimmons from South Korea, but this time we chose to get them from Haman due to their high quality, freshness and being a No. 1 brand in the country.

“We imported the fruits in tons from an established South Korea-based exporter, Hansarang Co. Ltd that gets supply of the sweet fruit directly from the Haman farmers.

“Sabah is a new market for Haman persimmons and we are confident the fruit would sell well and in demand,” Foo said, at the promotion at Everrise at Imago, Saturday.

Purchasers can also participate in a Korea Persimmon Buy and Win Contest 2024 to stand a chance to win weekly cash vouchers until Dec. 22, 2024.

Persimmons are a type of fall fruit, typically in season from September through December. Their promotion in Sabah would last until February.

Meanwhile, Hansarang Co. Ltd President Jonghae Kim said persimmons grow very well in high altitude at the mountain in Haman with fresh air and near to an unpolluted river which attributes to its high quality, is crispy and sweeter.

“We used to export persimmons to Peninsular Malaysia, but this time we choose Sabah as Sabahans like to eat our persimmons.

“Next year, we will export to Sarawak,” Jonghae said, adding that Euro-Atlantic is their partner and sole distributor.

He said the Haman local government gives full support technically and financially to Haman farmers planting persimmons.
