PETALING JAYA: Religious authorities are to look into complaints about a mosque in Kuala Lumpur whose loudspeakers have allegedly been used at excessive volumes during religious lectures, thus, disturbing the peace in the area.

Deputy religious affairs minister Zulkifli Hasan said the matter falls under the purview of the religious authorities, Bernama reported.

“A proper framework is in place. If any issues arise, we will address them appropriately,” he said while on a visit to a religious school in Terengganu.

“We do not want anything that disturbs the peace. We will ensure that no discomfort is caused to the community. Investigations and reviews will be conducted,” he said.

A complaint was widely shared on social media about the mosque allegedly causing discomfort in the neighbourhood through the high volume of its loudspeakers during religious lectures.

Zulkifli advised all religious institutions to be mindful of local sensitivities, including the impact of their activities, to maintain harmony within the community.
