Harris criticises Yong’s remark on Batu Puteh
Harris (left) said Yong (right) should have spoken out on the 30,000 acres of oil palm plantations belonging to Sabah Land Development Board in Sandakan that were sold through the Bahamas, only to also buy them back through the Bahamas, adding few individuals were arrested and charged and the matter was quickly silenced.
Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh criticised Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee’s recent remarks on the loss of Batu Puteh, saying it was tantamount to belittling Malayan leaders.

He was referring to the statement by Yong, a former Chief Minister, in the Daily Express on Dec 7, where Yong said it was a folly to think that Federal knows best.

“During his term as Chief Minister, Yong should have advised Sabahans to manage State assets responsibly,” said Harris in a statement, Tuesday.

He said Yong should have spoken out on the 30,000 acres of oil palm plantations belonging to Sabah Land Development Board in Sandakan that were sold through the Bahamas, only to also buy them back through the Bahamas, adding few individuals were arrested and charged and the matter was quickly silenced.

“On the issue of Batu Puteh lighthouse located on the border between Malaysia and Singapore, Yong blamed Tun Mahathir for not pursuing the matter.

“However, none of the 222 Members of Parliament addressed the Batu Puteh issue in Parliament,” said Harris.
