Sandakan KPDN seizes 77kg  sugar in raid on premises
Sandakan KPDN enforcement officers checking granulated sugar that is reported to be sold at an unreasonable price.
BELURAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sandakan raided a business premises owned by a foreign trader in Pekan Sugut on Monday for selling coarse white sugar at an unreasonable price.

Sandakan KPDN Branch Chief Enforcement Officer, Azdy Zukkry John, said he and his team conducted the raid after receiving complaints on social media.

“Through the inspection carried out, action was taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011 against a business premises operated by a foreign owner.

“The trader was found selling coarse refined white sugar above the controlled price of RM3 per kilogramme, compared to the set price of RM2.85 per kg.

“Therefore, KPDN Sandakan seized 77kg of coarse refined white sugar from the business premises for further action under AKHAP 2011,” he said in a press statement on Tuesday.

Since Sept 1, 2018, the retail controlled price has been set at RM2.85 per kg for coarse sugar and RM2.95 per kg for fine sugar.

Azdy added that seven business premises in the Sugut area were inspected on Monday, and all traders were advised to sell controlled items at the prices set by the government.

“In addition, KPDN also advised traders to ensure that the prices displayed match the prices charged when consumers make purchases.

“KPDN will take stern action against any party found involved in the misappropriation of supplies and the conditional sale of controlled items, including sugar, cooking oil, wheat flour, liquefied petroleum gas, petrol, and diesel,” he said.
