Chamber donates autoclave machine to Lahad Datu hospital
LAHAD DATU: The donation of a ‘Portable Autoclave’ machine by the Lahad Datu Chinese Chamber of Commerce has had a significant impact on the Ophthalmology Department’s efforts to treat patients with cataracts through the Cataract Surgery Carnival.

Medical Officer of Ophthalmology Department at Lahad Datu Hospital Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohd Rafi, stated that the department organised the Cataract Surgery Carnival annually to restore patients’ vision.

He said the carnival aims to assist 100 patients each year. Due to the large number of patients, certain equipment, such as the Portable Autoclave machine, needs to be borrowed to ensure the carnival’s success.

“This machine is responsible for sterilising surgical instruments to prevent infection during surgery and can sterilise equipment in a short amount of time.

“This machine is crucial to ensure smooth surgical procedures,” Dr. Abdul Rahman explained during the handing over ceremony of the Portable Autoclave to Lahad Datu Hospital, witnessed by the Head of the Silam PGRS Division, Datuk Mizma Appehdullah.

According to him, the donation significantly benefits the Ophthalmology Department as it will aid in the success of future carnivals.

He added that this contribution will provide long-term benefits to many patients in the future.

Meanwhile, the President of the Lahad Datu Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Tan Cheng Teng, emphasised their commitment to supporting Lahad Datu Hospital in delivering the best services to the community.

He stated that the donation aims to assist the Ophthalmology Department in organising the Cataract Surgery Carnival and treating patients.

“We hope that this machine will help facilitate the hospital’s efforts to treat patients effectively.

“We will also continue to provide cooperation and assistance to Lahad Datu Hospital for the benefit of all,” he added.
