Fatal crossing for man near Sutera

Kota Kinabalu: A man who did not use the pedestrian bridge paid with his life when he was knocked down by a Perodua Axia at Jalan Coastal near Sutera Avenue, early Sunday.

The victim in the 2.38am tragedy was identified as Mohd Mujibur Rahman Mangkasar, 34.

City police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said the car driver, a man in his 30s, was from the direction of Centre Point headed towards Tanjung Aru.

“The deceased suddenly crossed from the left side of the road resulting in the crash. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

“Investigations revealed the pedestrian bridge nearby was not used,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Kasim advised road users to obey traffic rules and pedestrians are urged to use proper paths provided to avoid untoward incidents.

Earlier, Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department personnel removed the man’s body from the car following the impact.
