PETALING JAYA: A retired contractor in Penang has won RM21.3 million in the Toto 4D Jackpot game after years of betting on the car plate numbers of family members.

The 64-year-old said he had chosen the two four-digit numbers – 5841 and 1562 – for years before they were announced as the Toto 4D’s second and third prize on Dec 8.

“I was speechless and overjoyed when I checked my ticket against the results,” he said in a press release by STM Lottery Sdn Bhd.

With his winnings set to guarantee him a comfortable retirement, the Penangite said he would put the money in a fixed deposit to ensure a steady generation of income.

Another man in Penang walked away with RM4.4 million in winnings after also taking a punt on his car plate numbers – 9666 and 1018.

“I work as a driver, and my car has rewarded me for my hard work. I am very happy to use the winnings to start my own business,” the 39-year-old said.
