BEAUFORT: Twenty-six families involving 80 people were moved to the Selagon flood relief centre (PPS) here following a sudden deluge of their village.
District Fire and Rescue Chief Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said the victims evacuated from Kampung Suasa comprised 11 men, 25 women, 40 children and four babies.
He said the relief centre was activated at 4pm on Sunday (Dec 15).
“All the victims were moved using four-wheel drive vehicles and trucks from Kampung Suasa to the permanent relief centre in Selagon.
“The transfer of all victims has been completed by firemen from the Beaufort station,” he said, Monday.
He said police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) as well as state welfare and health officials assisted in the evacuation.
He said heavy rain over the highland districts of Nabawan, Tenom and Sipitang since Wednesday (Dec 11) had caused the level of Sungai Padas to rise, flooding the low-lying village.
He advised the flood victims to obey the instructions to evacuate without delay.
