From skies to spotlight: Gopi represents Malaysia in ‘Man of the Globe International’
Sri Gopinath
KOTA KINABALU: Penampang-born Sri Gopinath, a 30-year-old Indian Kadazan flight crew member from one of the world’s most renowned airlines, has brought honor to Malaysia by winning the prestigious title of “Man of the Globe Charity” at the recently concluded Man of the Globe International Pageant.

Held in Pampanga, Philippines, from December 9 to 16, the event gathered representatives from countries such as the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Pakistan, the Czech Republic, Greece, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Malaysia in a weeklong celebration of advocacy, culture, and camaraderie.

The pageant’s overarching mission is to advocate for the global empowerment of children’s rights and protection, a cause close to Gopi’s heart. Throughout the week, contestants engaged in meaningful activities, including visits to children’s homes and donations, a charity auction dinner, advocacy speech training, fitness challenges, and cultural tours.

Gopi’s advocacy centres on creating a safer and more nurturing environment for children, particularly in rural areas of Sabah, where access to resources and opportunities remains limited. “I would like to empower young people and children from an early age and provide them a safe space to learn, live, and thrive. Small gestures can create a ripple effect – individually, we are one drop, but together, we are an ocean,” he shared passionately.

The grand finale saw Gopinath crowned with one of the main titles of the night, which is “Man of the Globe Charity,” while Sri Lanka claimed the title of “Man of the Globe International.” The Philippines and the Czech Republic rounded out the top spots as 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

Gopi’s achievement not only highlights his personal dedication to the pageant’s mission but also places Malaysia firmly on the map as a strong advocate for children’s rights. “This win is not just for me; it’s for Malaysia and for the children whose voices we aim to amplify,” he said.

As he returns to Sabah, Gopi hopes to inspire others to take action, proving that collective efforts, no matter how small, can lead to transformative change for future generations.
