Man suffers severe burns in Kolombong house fire

KOTA KINABALU: A 54-year-old man sustained severe burns while attempting to escape a house fire at Taman Nelly in Kolombong, early Tuesday.

Woo Chee Ke suffered 80 per cent burns on his body and is currently receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (HQE II).

Lintas Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Senior Assistant Fire Supt Agustavia Joe Guasi, said they received an emergency call about the incident at 12.49am.

“A team of six personnel with a fire engine was dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found that a flat unit on the second floor was 20 per cent destroyed by the fire. The team quickly carried out extinguishing operations using one hose line and two water jets, with water sourced from the fire engine’s tank,” he said.
