SIPITANG: Residents in Kampung Long Pasia urged the Public Works Department (JKR) to temporarily suspend logging truck operations until after the Christmas celebrations.
Village chief, Yakub Shim, said many villagers are eager to return home for Christmas, but worsening road conditions have made travel increasingly difficult.
“The roads are becoming muddier, causing many logging trucks to get stuck, which further damages the road.
“For example, this morning, we were on our way to Sipitang town but had to stop for a long time because the logging trucks were stuck in the mud,” Yakub said
He said logging activities should be halted temporarily and the logs left at their current sites. Bulldozers should also be used to prevent further transportation of logs in the days leading up to Christmas to ensure villagers can travel safely.
