Kota Kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah dismissed claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim orchestrated Tun Musa Aman’s appointment as 11th Head of State to make PKR Sabah Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud the Chief Minister.
Sabah PKR Deputy Chairman Datuk Peto Galim (pic) clarified that the appointment was made in accordance with Article 1(1) of the Sabah State Constitution, which grants Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar the authority to appoint the Head of State after consulting the Chief Minister.
“All parties must respect the Constitution and the processes carried out in accordance with it. This is a legal matter and should not be politicised,” Peto told a press conference at the PKR office in Suria Inanam, Thursday.
Also present were Information Chief Razeef Rakimin and Deputy Communications Director Fekirie Gobet.
Peto said the appointment process was conducted appropriately and in full compliance with the Constitution.
“At PKR, we endorse and support this leadership. As long as the Constitution is followed, there is no reason for objection.”
Meanwhile, Razeef Rakimin denounced accusations by some political leaders in Peninsula Malaysia over the appointment and criticised the spread of videos claiming that the appointment was part of a plan by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to advance personal political interests.
“These claims are baseless and malicious, aimed at discrediting the Prime Minister by suggesting he interfered or abused his authority in the appointment,” Razeef said.
He said such accusations are intended to strain PKR’s relationship with Gerakan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Barisan Nasional.
“The appointment of a Prime Minister or any political leader is a process conducted after elections and in consultation with coalition partners.
“Furthermore, Mustapha is not even an assemblyman, which makes the claim entirely unfounded,” he said.
Razeef urged the public to remain open-minded and accept Musa as the new Governor, giving him the opportunity to demonstrate his capability in fulfilling his responsibilities.
It expressed gratitude to the Agong for the appointment as well as its heartfelt appreciation and to Tun Juhar Mahiruddin for his service.
