KOTA KINABALU: The simmering tensions surrounding the Rumah Pangsa Tanjung Aru have escalated as residents voiced outrage over fencing works carried out by the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB).
Residents claimed the move was an attempt to pressure them into leaving, even though relocation issues remain unresolved.
The 95 families still living in the low-cost flats criticised the fencing as unnecessary and harmful.
“We are not prisoners. Why are they doing this?” one resident questioned, adding that the lack of proper airflow caused by the fencing creates risks of disease, extreme heat, and unbearable living conditions.
The residents also said the move contradicted earlier promises by the government to ensure their relocation before any eviction.
Andrew Wong, 56, who has lived in Rumah Pangsa for 26 years with his wife and two children, described the experience as deeply frustrating.
