Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old man was charged with raping his stepdaughter.
The man pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to the charge against him.
The man is accused of raping the 14-year and three-month-old girl between June 26 and 28 this year at a house in Putatan.
The offence, under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court released the man on a bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties as well as to report to Papar police station.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim offered no bail on the grounds that the alleged victim was his stepdaughter.
But the man, who was not represented, asked for bail saying that he was staying with his first wife and the girl staying with his second wife who was the girl’s mother.
Meanwhile, a woman was fined RM1,500 or seven days’ jail for selling unregistered products.
