Sabah Electricity receives RM161.7m ICPT subsidy from Fed Govt
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity has received a federal subsidy payment of RM161.7 million to cover the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) for 2024.

Its Chairman, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic), confirmed receiving the payment on Dec 23.

“This sum is a reimbursement for the funds that Sabah Electricity has expended to accommodate the ICPT costs,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Madius expressed gratitude to the federal government for its responsiveness to Sabah’s needs, enabling Sabah Electricity to continue providing power supply to the State.

In a parliamentary sitting last November, Madius, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tuaran, had raised concerns about the possibility of Sabah facing power outages during the Christmas and New Year celebrations if the subsidy was not disbursed.

He also acknowledged the State Government’s additional RM50.9 million ICPT subsidy to Sabah Electricity.

“As announced by the Chief Minister on Dec 20, the exemption of the ICPT surcharge has been extended from Jan 1 to June 30, 2025,” he said.
