Kota Kinabalu: Age is not an obstacle for a group of seniors from Kota Kinabalu to play in friendly badminton matches during their visit to Brunei Darussalam recently.
The seniors, who were in 50s and 70s, were part of a 20-man team who took part in a tour to the kingdom of which the badminton matches were part of the programme.
Vice President of the Council of Former Sabah People’s Representatives (Mubarak), Datuk Johari Dun, who led the group praised the senior’s competitive spirt and stamina.
“On average, the team members have retired but are still active in badminton,” he said.
When asked how the veterans were able to maintain their stamina, Johari said that all of them had been playing badminton since they were young.
“In fact, until now almost every day we practice on the court, so the question of stamina is not an obstacle.
“On average, we are still able to run fast and swing our rackets towards the opponent.
Johari, 66, said it was not the first time they visited Brunei for the same purpose. He added that the team had also made visits to Indonesia and the Philippines to play friendly matches.
