Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old man, whose wife is pregnant, was charged with robbing a man of his car as well as causing hurt to him.
Jul Ahmad pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to the charge against him on Tuesday.
Jul is accused of robbing one Velantain Jeffry, 44, at a car park of the Kedai 7 Playground in Benoni, Papar between 1am and 2.30am on Dec 11 this year.
He allegedly committed the offence together with two other accused, namely Mohd Fuad Alexander, 33, and Firmansyah Mohd, 39, who admitted to the charge and were sentenced accordingly.
During the incident, they also took Velantain’s handphone.
The offence under Section 394 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court set Jan 28 for pre-trial case management and no bail was offered to Jul pending the disposal of his case.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Haikal Hazwan asked for another mention date and objected to bail for Jul.
However, Jul who was unrepresented asked for bail to be granted saying that his wife is currently pregnant and expected to deliver their baby in April 2025.
He added that if bail was not granted, no one would be taking care of his wife.
