Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) urged the State Government to use Sabah’s special immigration powers to safeguard the peace, harmony and way of life that Sabahans hold dear.
“This means banning individuals who disrespect our leaders and institutions, tightening entry checks to keep troublemakers out, and setting up a system to monitor those who pose a risk to our peace and harmony.
“At the same time, we need to review and strengthen our laws to ensure they can effectively protect Sabah’s stability,” said its Vice President David Ong in a statement.
He said the recent actions by activist Fahmi Reza, which openly disrespected the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah (TYT) and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, are deeply troubling.
“Such behaviour is not only an insult to our leaders but also challenge to the values and institutions that underpin our society.
“This incident highlights the growing threat posed by outsiders who bring divisive and provocative ideas and behaviour into Sabah. Sabah has always been known for its culture of unity and mutual respect. We cannot allow actions that disrupt this harmony to take root.
“If we don’t act decisively, the consequences could be serious. Disrespectful and seditious behaviour can erode the public’s trust our leaders, causing divisions within our community. It can also lead to the spread of political and ideological conflicts that do not belong in Sabah.
“If left unchecked, such influences could potentially destabilizing the peace and unity that are the foundation of our State,” he stressed.
He said allowing this kind of behaviour to continue would also send a dangerous message that Sabah is open to disruptive elements.
“This could attract others who want to stir trouble, turning our state into a battleground for political and ideological conflicts.
“It would harm Sabah’s image as a peaceful and harmonious place, which could impact not only our social stability but also our economy. Investors and visitors value safety and stability, and we cannot afford to lose that trust.
“It is important to remember that coming to Sabah is a privilege, not a right. Anyone entering our state must respect our leaders, customs, and way of life. Sabahans have worked hard to build a society based on respect and understanding, and we will not let those efforts be undone.
“We call on the State Government to act swiftly and decisively to ensure that these values are protected for future generations. The stakes are too high to ignore our unity, safety, and future depend on taking firm action now.”
