Malaysia now Brics member, Sabah to benefit
According to former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng,  incoming US President Donald J. Trump may dampen Malaysia's economic outlook in 2025 if he imposes punitive tariffs in response to BRICS to prioritise “Make America Great Again”.
Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia joined the BRICS group on Jan 1, 2025. Originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, in 2024 expanded to include Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE (United Arab Emirates).

BRICS grants Malaysia better access to several large and promising markets, which will allow them to expand trade and reinforce investment ties, as an example of positive benefits.

Trade volumes are expected to increase. Being promoted is long serving Matrade Sabah Assistant Director Nurashiqien Shariqah Jimmy (pic) said that she is being transferred to Matrade HQ effective Jan 1.

She has worked hard to “help Sabah’s companies export their products, and cocoa products from Sabah for instance have been popular in trade fairs overseas.”
