SANDAKAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), Branch here has conducted 6,850 business premise inspections throughout 2024.
Sandakan KPDN Branch Chief Enforcement Officer, Azdy Zukkry John, said that of this total, 4,274 inspections were carried out in the town area, while 2,576 inspections took place in rural areas.
He said a total of 185 cases were recorded, with total value of seized goods amounting to RM 3,310,219.89, while the total compound collected was RM114,300.
“In terms of prosecutions, six cases in Sandakan KPDN had been brought to court in 2024 and the accused in five of these cases were convicted with a total fine of RM80,000.
“One case resulted in a 12-month’s jail. All of these prosecutions were made under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
“In terms of consumer complaints, a total of 154 were received from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2024, with 149 complaints (96.75pc) solved, while the remaining five complaints (3.25pc are still under investigation,” he said in a statement.
On Thursday, Sandakan KPDN raided a business premises in Kampung Sim-Sim for failing to display price tags.
“Upon inspection at one of the shops, it was found that the trader had failed to display price tags on 20 bottles of 330m carbonated drinks in various which were displayed for sale.
“Action was taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011, and the trader was fined RM300,” he said.
Sandakan KPDN Branch advised traders to always comply with the laws, especially in terms of clear price marking that does not confuse consumers.
Azdy also said they welcomed any information and complaints related to traders’ misconduct.
