Kota Kinabalu: Centre Point Sabah reinforced its commitment to community welfare by donating 10 boats to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to strengthen emergency response capabilities in flood-prone areas such as Penampang, Kota Marudu and Beaufort.
This is through the mall’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiative, “Save Our Society (S.O.S) - Boat Donation” Campaign.
Flooding is a recurring challenge for many rural communities in Sabah, often cutting off access and delaying rescue operations.
The donated boats, specifically designed for navigating narrow and shallow waterways, are set to significantly improve the department’s ability to respond quickly and effectively, especially in remote areas.
At the handover ceremony, Bomba representatives expressed appreciation for the timely contribution.
Chief of the Beaufort Fire Station, PPgB Mohamad Hasbulla Nenggok, called the boats “a game-changer” for emergency operations.
“Their compact size and agility will enable us to reach flood victims more efficiently, ensuring their safety and well-being during critical moments,” he said.
The initiative reflects Centre Point Sabah’s proactive role in addressing societal challenges through strategic ESG efforts.
“As a local family mall, our responsibility goes beyond providing a shopping destination. We are deeply rooted in the communities we serve and are dedicated to their safety and future,” said its Public Relations Executive Meredith Madani.
