Kota Kinabalu: Sepanggar MP Datuk Mustapha Sakmud reiterated the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition’s stand against corruption, saying there will be no compromise against those found guilty of involvement.
However, he said, those suspected involved in corruption or abuse of power would still need to go through the legal process.
“Our stand is clear as we have always stayed in line with our Gerakan Reformasi (Reformation Movement) manifesto in which we are against any corruption.
“We will not compromise, and we will want the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) to carry out investigation. Let the investigation progress and bring those guilty to face justice,” he said at a Chinese New Year Celebration, Sunday.
“But we should not judge people as if they have been found guilty. We must act rational when evaluating as we should think about Sabah’s stability in terms of economy development, community, the people’s welfare as well as politic.”
He said rushed decisions or unverified opinions would only lead to misunderstanding that would affect the people.
Mustapha was commenting on a video that when viral involving assemblymen allegedly involved in a corruption scandal.
On another matter, he said Sabahans should focus on common values while rejecting those that could stir controversies.
He said that there would always be irresponsible individuals or parties that purposefully lead the people astray by instigating hatred through differences of race or religion.
“Despite having different races and religions, there are a lot of things people in Sabah have in common.
“This includes community (togetherness), family, education, social and economy, among others.
“Do not be the ‘other half’ that highlight any slight differences.”
Also present were State Agriculture and Fisheries Assistant Minister cum Inanam Assemblyman Datuk Peto Galim, State Finance Assistant Minister cum Likas Assemblyman Datuk Tan Lee Fatt and Organising Chairperson Datuk Wong Thien Fook, among others.
The Higher Education Assistant Minister said there would always be differences among people especially in a State that consists of various cultures, race and religion.
“If we (Sabahans) only emphasise on those differences there will never be unity,” he added.
