Media practitioners’ critical role appreciated

SANDAKAN: A total of 30 media were celebrated at an event organised by Sandakan MP Vivian Wong as a gesture of appreciation for their critical role in disseminating information to the public.

The event held at Skate Park Ujana Elopura, mile 2, also marked the arrival of the New Year 2025, in a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

In her welcoming speech, Vivian acknowledged the tireless efforts of local media practitioners in reporting current issues and their role as a bridge between the people and the government.

“Media practitioners are the backbone of an informed society. Their hard work, often going unnoticed, is vital in shaping public perspectives and enabling the people to make fact-based decisions,” she said.

Media practitioners in attendance were also presented with tokens of appreciation as a gesture of thanks for their contributions.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Sandakan Media Association (PEMASSA), James Leong, described the event as a meaningful initiative that strengthens ties between media practitioners and local leaders.

“We feel deeply appreciated by this recognition. It also provides us with an opportunity to interact informally with the leaders,” he said.

The event concluded in a cheerful and spirited atmosphere, fostering a renewed commitment to maintaining close collaboration between the Sandakan MP and media practitioners to advance development and community well-being.
