Kota Kinabalu: The State Government is ready to bear the cost of taking over a lane project for the Kundasang – Ranau road despite it belonging to the Federal Government.

Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said it is best if the Federal Government could allocate the funding but this usually takes too long and so the state government will not hesitate to step in.

“Cabinet has agreed to the expenditure ordinarily borne by Federal. We are waiting for the Sabah Public Works Department design for the proposal submitted late 2024.

“Lorries make it hard for faster moving vehicles to overtake causing a 15 minute travel to turn into 2 hours especially during the weekends and holidays.

“It’s a lot of (time) wasted and the state government feels it is a priority for the people since it is the main road connecting Kota Kinabalu to Ranau and Sandakan…Most of the problematic roads in Sabah belongs to federal,” he said.

Masidi said this after a lion dance eye-dotting ceremony and handover of lion heads to the Tionghoa community at Hakka Hall here on Thursday.
