Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed 10 years and ordered to get 10 strokes of the cane for having 33.41gm of syabu.
Sessions Court Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed the sentence to Rauhilfud S Zimu who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Rauhilfud was found having the drug at 1.20pm on April 30, 2024 by the roadside in Kg Lok Bruno in Sepanggar, Manggatal and 11.50pm on March 27, 2024 at a house in Kg Delima, Manggatal.
The offence, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, carries a jail term of between five years and life imprisonment, and whipping of at least 10 strokes, on conviction.
The court instructed Rauhilfud to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.
Meanwhile, Rauhilfud’s co-accused Nursani Amming and Danico Bernardo pleaded not guilty to the charge against them.
During the proceedings, the duo told the court that they were not involved in the case and asked for them to be tested for drug.
The court set Feb 12 this year for pre-trial case management and ordered the duo to be remanded further pending the date.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution.
