Jobless man jailed for keeping stolen car
Further investigations revealed that the engine and chassis numbers of the car driven by Al Rasul matched those of the complainant’s vehicle, which had been reported stolen.
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for having a stolen car.

Mohd Al Rasul Wasran, 38, pleaded guilty to keeping a stolen Perodua Axia belonging to one Hanlly Dee Langub on Dec 29, 2024, at 11.45pm, at the passenger drop-off point, third floor of the Kota Kinabalu Airport here.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.

The prosecution informed Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali that the complainant had lodged a police report on Dec 26 last year, regarding his car being stolen at a Shell kiosk in Likas.

A check of the kiosk’s CCTV footage showed that an unknown man entered the complainant’s car, which still had the engine running, and drove off.

On Dec 29, while Al Rasul was about to park at level three of the KKIA, he was detained by the police, who discovered that the car was displaying a fake number plate.

Further investigations revealed that the engine and chassis numbers of the car driven by Al Rasul matched those of the complainant’s vehicle, which had been reported stolen.

Duty Counsel Jagnesh Jaya representing Al Rasul, requested a minimum imprisonment sentence from the date of arrest, citing that he is married with one child and was the family sole breadwinner as self-employed that has no fixed income.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Yuvan Bharathan in applying for an appropriate sentence submitted that Al Rasul has no previous conviction record.

The court ordered Al Rasul to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, another man was jailed seven months for committing similar offence.

Muhd Zaidee Nizam, 23, admitted to keeping a stolen 15-inch rim together with its tyre belonging to one Md Fazrul Undusin, on Jan 1, this year, between 10.50pm and 11.30pm, at the ground floor of Block 1B, Phase 1A, Alam Puteri, Jalan Sepanggar.

The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that Zaidee was caught by the complainant at the said place while he was about to lift the said stolen rim and tyre.

Zaidee was then handed to police, said Inspector Yusdi Basri.
