KUNAK: The Kunak District Council has installed fencing to secure both the weekly Tamu site and the adjacent Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) market area in response to concern about stray dogs.

Its Executive Officer Mohd Nazri Pintal said the measure addresses public complaints about stray dogs that had been using vendor tables and floors as resting places and leaving waste throughout the Tamu Fama building.

“By installing this fence, we aim to keep stray animals out of these spaces. The large number of stray dogs in the Tamu area has been a persistent issue and our council staff cannot maintain constant surveillance,” he told Daily Express.

To ensure convenience for the public and vendors during the weekend market operations the council has incorporated multiple access points into the fencing system.
