Drop in Lahad Datu crimes
For commercial crimes, Dzulbaharin said a total of 103 cases were recorded, compared to 98 cases in 2023. 
LAHAD DATU: The district’s crime index recorded a decrease of 26 cases with 179 cases reported in 2024 compared to 205 cases in 2023.

District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said for non-index crimes, a total of 225 cases recorded in 2024 compared to 283 cases in 2023.

Dzulbaharin said it is seen that there is a significant decrease in index crime at the beginning of 2025 with a higher case solving rate of 148 cases compared to the same period in 2024.

“The Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (JSJN) made 1,184 arrests for various drug offences, last year.

“The prosecution rates showed that 1,444 cases were brought to the court as well as 58 cases under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

For commercial crimes, Dzulbaharin said a total of 103 cases were recorded, compared to 98 cases in 2023.

However, the division has successfully recorded 50.49 per cent of prosecution as well as 95.14 per cent of case solving.

In 2024, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division recorded a decrease of accident with 850 cases compared to 879 cases in 2023.

However, in 2024, a total of 40 fatal accidents were recorded compared to 25 cases in 2023.

During the press conference, Dzulbaharin also disclosed the success of Lahad Datu Police in detaining a local man who was involved in robbery and impersonating a civil servant.

He said on Jan 10 this year, they received a report following a robbery and impersonating a Police Officer at Felda Sahabat 6, from an Indonesian man.

“Acting on information, a team of police from the Lahad Datu Crime Investigation Division, assisted by police members from Cenderawasih Police station went to an unnumbered house in a private plantation in Kampung Tanjung Labian and detained a 39-year-old man.

“Result of investigation found that the suspect is a former auxiliary police member and found to have committed extortion activities before,” he added.
